Regular Naturalization

Regular naturalization is the standard procedure for acquiring citizenship in Brazil, requiring continuous permanent residence for 4 years (or 1 year if you have a Brazilian spouse or stable-union companion or a Brazilian child). You must also comply with other requirements, such as knowledge of the Portuguese language and not being found guilty of any crime (or if you were guilty, having already been rehabilitated). This procedure is intended for people who would like to become Brazilian citizens, having access to all the country’s rights, including to live freely in the country.

Regular naturalization is intended for foreigners who have already had permanent residence for an indefinite period, and who fulfill the other legal requirements. It is ideal if you are looking for access to all the rights of Brazilian citizenship, such having a passport.

"Civil standing: You must be at least 18 years old, the legal age of majority in Brazilian law.
Permanent residence: You must prove you have had continuous permanent residence in Brazil for a period of 4 years (or 1 year if you have a Brazilian spouse or companion or a Brazilian child) by means of the CRNM [Carteira de Registro National Migratorio] with an indefinite timeframe and other proofs of a Brazilian address.
Knowledge of the language: You must prove your proficiency in the Portuguese language.
Criminal history: You must provide police certificates of good behavior (no previous crimes) in both your country of origin and country of residence, or if you have been found guilty of a crime, proof that you have been rehabilitated."
