The UK Family Visa is the British route that reunites couples or families in the United Kingdom. One party is the sponsor, and the other receives the visa to live, work, and study in the country.
Quem já mora no país como cidadão britânico, titular de residência permanente (ILR) ou de Settled Status (EUSS) pode patrocinar a vinda do parceiro ou dos filhos. O pedido se apoia em duas bases: a prova de que o relacionamento é real e contínuo, e a comprovação da renda mínima de quem patrocina, hoje a partir de £29.000 por ano, por salário, trabalho autônomo, poupança ou uma combinação.
Those already in the country as British citizens, holders of permanent residence (ILR) or Settled Status (EUSS) can sponsor a partner or children. The application rests on two pillars: proof that the relationship is genuine and ongoing, and evidence of the sponsor's minimum income, currently from £29,000 a year, through salary, self-employment, savings, or a combination.

What is the UK Family Visa?
It is the British route that reunites a couple or a family in the UK: one partner sponsors, the other receives the visa to live, work, and study in the country. The sub routes cover spouse, partner, fiancé, and children.
Who can sponsor my family's arrival?
Usually a British citizen, a holder of permanent residence (ILR) or of Settled Status (EUSS). In some cases, holders of other visas can also sponsor. In our first conversation we confirm whether your status works as sponsorship.
What is the minimum income and how do I prove it?
The sponsor's minimum income is currently from £29,000 a year. It can be met through salary, self-employment or a company, savings, or a combination of these. We build the combination that fits your case before applying.
What if the income comes from self-employment or is not a fixed salary?
You can still apply. The UK accepts income from self-employment and from a company, with its own evidence rules, as well as accumulated savings. The point is to assemble the right documentation, which is exactly what we do with you.
What relationship evidence do I need to show?
The caseworker wants to see the bond is genuine and ongoing: the couple's history, time spent together, communication over time, and the plan to live together in the UK. We organize it into a set that holds up, with no gap that becomes grounds for refusal.
My partner and I are not married. Can we still apply?
Yes. Besides marriage and civil partnership, the route recognises couples who live together in a stable relationship, usually for at least two years. If needed, our Families team also supports the recognition of the bond, through stable union or marriage.
Can I include the children?
Yes. Children under 18 can come together with a parent, or to join a parent already in the country, as long as they are not married and do not lead an independent life. Adult dependents with a disability follow a separate route.
Do I need to prove English?
Usually yes, and it is the applicant who proves it, not the British spouse. The level rises along the path: A1 at entry, A2 at extension, and B1 for permanent residence. There are exemptions, by age or nationality for example. We confirm what applies and arrange the test at the right time.
How long does it take to get a decision?
The standard processing time for the family visa, from outside the UK, is up to 24 weeks. With the priority service, it drops to around 30 working days, where available. The exact time depends on the visa post and the service chosen.
Does the fiancé visa allow work? And after the wedding?
The fiancé visa gives six months to marry and does not allow work during that period. After the wedding, you must apply for the spouse visa, it is not automatic. We organize that transition with you, and Amorim also supports arranging the marriage.
We want to marry in Brazil, not in the UK. Does Amorim help?
Yes. Our International Families team advises on the entire marriage process in Brazil. In parallel, the UK Immigration team handles the strategy and documentation for the spouse visa, so both processes are conducted in a coordinated way.
What happens if the application is refused?
A refusal usually arrives with no warning and the fees paid are not refunded. In some cases there is a right of appeal to the UK tribunal, on the right to family life (Article 8); in others, the path is a fresh application. That is why we only apply when income, evidence, and deadlines are ready.
Does this visa lead to permanent residence and citizenship?
Yes. For the partner of a British citizen, the path usually takes five years: first visa, one extension, and then permanent residence (ILR). Citizenship usually comes a year later, with the Life in the UK test, English, and good conduct. We map this path with you from the start.
Do I need to worry about deadlines and absences after approval?
Yes. After the entry clearance is approved, there are 30 days to enter the country. And absences from the UK, above 180 days a year, can affect the path to ILR. We track these deadlines with you.
How much does it cost and how does working with Amorim start?
